Happy Summer! Self Care is not SelfishSummer, Sunshine and Self-Care.
For many of you, it has been a very long year already. Now that school is out and summer is officially here, try to find some time to take care of you. Yes, give yourself some TLC (tender loving care). The month of July has international self-care day! Yes, July 24th is officially international self-care day! But why not make the whole month a self-care month? Our new summer hours started July 1st, so check out the increased availability online here. http://willowhillwellness.com/book-online.html You can book in for 30, 45, 60, 75 or 90 minutes therapeutic massage. If you are new, or have not been in for a massage in a few years, please book for a minimum of 45 minutes. All of our posted rates include HST. At Willowhill Massage and Wellness, we strive to provide the highest quality of care as we continually take ongoing advanced learning for the benefit of all clients. You can book for Therapeutic massage or for Craniosacral Therapy. If you have any questions of what sessions look like, please email for more information. Heather is currently finishing her certification for Craniosacral Therapy. After 10 years of practicing this wonderful technique on ages 4 weeks to 90 years old, she is finally making her certification official. 4 other ways (non-massage) that you can practice self-care: 1- Do something fun outdoors: There are so many things that we can do outdoors that don't cost a things. You can spend time with your favorite humans by going for a walk, a hike, bike ride or going to the beach. Try packing a picnic and find a beautiful spot in a park to enjoy it. Did you know that the day use area at Pittock conservation area is free now? 2- Declutter your home: Decluttering your physical space can be a rewarding experience in a number of ways. Most people have items hanging around that they no longer want or need. Spending a few hours getting rid of unwanted things will not only refresh your space and create a more calm environment, but chances are you will be able to donate items to an organization that serves those in need. 3- Try making a new, healthy meal: Cooking can be a therapeutic practice, and when you try a wholesome recipe you haven’t used before, you are learning something new and benefiting the health of yourself and your family. Cooking can also be an excellent activity to explore with kids, as it helps to develop attention, coordination and communication, and provides a sense of accomplishment. 4- Play a game that fosters communication: It’s easy to turn a family game night into an opportunity to improve communication skills and learn more about your family. Search online for suggestions, such as a questions game where each family member writes a few silly questions and a few serious questions that everybody needs to answer (e.g. ‘What would you name a planet?’ or ‘Is it ever okay to tell a lie?’). The more serious questions could prompt valuable family discussions, while the silly questions will keep the activity fun. Of course, my 1st choice of self care is Massage therapy but the above ideas provided by BC children's hospital mental health care are great steps in taking care of you and your family's wellbeing.
