Osteopathy & Craniosacral Therapy

With Heather

CST is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

By complementing the body’s natural healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and is effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.

These treatments have an assessment and often are combined with muscle energy, myofascial release, or visceral manipulation.

The Body Cushion system is available here. It allows the pregnant client to lie comfortably on their stomach well into the second trimester. Padded bolsters support the chest, low back and ankles, while cutouts allow the breasts and stomach to rest comfortably. Usually in the third trimester, the client will lie on their side. The Body Cushion is not recommended for clients experiencing a higher risk pregnancy.

Hot Stone Massage

Heather or Lindsay
This is a massage that combines therapeutic massage with Heated Stones. The massage therapist massages the muscles with the heated stones allowing the heat to warm the tissues and to further increase circulation and waste product removal from the tissues. It enhances the treatment allowing you to feel very relaxed and rejuvenated.

Thai Massage

Also know as “yoga for lazy people”. Traditional Thai Massage is a 2500 year old healing art from Thailand that combines acupressure, stretching and supported yoga postures with a rhythmic and meditative approach. Joints are gently loosened, muscles are stretched and internal organs are stimulated while you achieve a deep state of relaxation. Thai Massage helps to increase your flexibility and improve your overall sense of well-being. It is done over yoga type clothes on a comfortable mat on the floor while the therapist moves the client through yoga type movements. Full treatments not available at this time, but some of the movements and stretches can be incorporated on the table during the massage.

Muscle Energy Technique

Heather or Lindsay

Developed by an osteopathic physician, the muscle energy technique is a non-invasive method of manual therapy. It is said to help with relieving pain, fixing joint issues, reducing edema and improving a person’s range of motion. It is based on reciprocal inhibition, which is a theory that describes how muscles react. Based on reciprocal inhibition, the muscles located to one side of a joint relax when the muscles on the other side of the joint contract. An indirect type of pressure is applied to the muscle – the client resists movement, causing the muscle to contract and then relax. The idea is that the muscle will stretch further after each contraction.

The muscle energy technique is often used by athletes as a preventative measure against potential injury in the course of sports.
